The absence of proximity health care facilities exposes the local population to a very high risk.

Maternity Clinics

A few years ago, Sunshine in Nosy Komba identified an urgent need for reproductive and maternal care in the village of Antintorona. At the time, women either gave birth at home or had to travel by boat for nearly an hour to reach the nearest clinic on Nosy Be, a journey that often led to severe complications and, in some cases, the tragic loss of mothers or newborns.

In response, the NGO established a maternity clinic, equipped with delivery rooms and staffed by local nurses and midwives. Today, these healthcare professionals manage the clinic independently and are dedicated to serving the entire community. Given the success of this initiative, a second maternity clinic was later opened elsewhere on the island to extend access to safe, reliable care.

Community Clinics

Since 2016, Sunshine in Nosy Komba supported the development of a health care centre in Antintorona. More thatn 2000 medical consultations take place yearly and several babies are born in the facility.

In 2024, the resident of the neighbouring village of Antamotamo requested our support to establish a medical center. The new building is equipped with essential medical supplies, and has a system to bring clean and filtered water.
